Tuning the WRX is not all that much easier, i.e. any less expensive, than the
early Impreza types. However, it has better suspension, better seats and of course, much more
power. This makes it a much more satisfying car to tune at a modest level. But
the power levels make tuning it for speed more demanding.
Some time ago, a comment was made on the internet that "SPD Tuning wants
you to under-tune your car." I thought about that for a while and realized
it was a complement. We are not trying to build a street rod out of the WRX.
There are many individuals who want to spend a lot of money and go real fast,
and happen to choose the WRX for this purpose. This approach, in its worst case,
will build a car that has significant flaws in terms of balanced performance
between the braking, handling and acceleration ability of the car and even in the
best case often results in a car that has much higher maintenance needs and less
reliability than most owners expect. We respect the people who take this 'street
rod' route,
and some will be very successful, but this path is not our focus.
SPD Tuning Service is dedicated to improving the total performance
envelope without sacrificing reliability or increasing maintenance costs. We are
taking a slow and deliberate development of our WRX tuning programs. The
concept for the new car will be the development of a "WRX tuned by SPD"
program of very well defined levels of equipment. We will once again follow Mark
Twain's observation when he stated, "I bought my wife flowers the other
day. She was very happy. But her cooking did not improve!" Why by flowers
for your car? Parts of marginal or questionable tuning value will not be sold.
Let some one else talk you out of your money!
We will keep to the essential tuning changes. In keeping with the tuning level each
owner seeks, we hope to offer continually more interesting levels of
performance. At the very least, we will offer suggestions for very high levels of
reliable performance we hope to see developed for the car as time goes by.
