There are three options for the WRX depending on what wheels you use and how crazy you drive.

1. Stock 16x6.5 wheels are only pad upgradeable. We have Axxis street pads at under $50 a set. We recommend Mintex 1155 front, stock rear pads for light competition use. These are great pads, but should only be used if you experience brake fade. Their harder compound requires that one keep heat in them or they abrade (wear) the rotors in light use. I run them, but I stop quite firmly all the time, so I keep enough heat in them that the pad wears and not the rotor.  The need for a harder pad is easy to realize by your driving habits. If you are not cooking your brakes, do not worry about upgraded pads. We recommend that cryo treated and slotted rotors be used with Mintex 1155 when it is time to replace rotors. They wear much better! We also stock the excellent Mintex race compound, track only pads. Email for details.

2. Speedline rally 15x7and Speedline Comp2 16x7 plus  Speedline or O.Z. 17"/18"wheels have enough spoke to rotor clearance have the following option.  The Subaru 298mm four piston Calipers may be used with the stock rotor or a special rotor hat may be used with these calipers. The only real advantage is looking cool and having a bit more pad stability from the four pot rotors. Rotor size has not changed from the stock WRX. Optional (per Item 4 below) is to install standard size vented rear rotor/caliper kit for better brake balance with hot brakes.

3. With 17x7 and up wheels of proper spoke clearance we offer the excellent  SPD/StopTech 330mm brake kit. Wheels like Prodrive O.Z. P1, Speedline P7 and Speedline GT-1 all fit. Others may fit but we have not tested them. The Brembo or Prodrive/Alcon kits are also available.

4. For track sessions we have vented rear rotor/caliper kits from the early WRX. These are not the 2-pot WRX kit as they will not easily adapt to non STI rear ends. They are single piston caliper similar to your existing caliper, but wider to accommodate the vented rotor in identical diameter as the stock units. This kit will retain brake balance with hot brakes at the track or coming down a mountain pass. Best news is they are a simple bolt-on.

5. We have large 2-piston rear brake kits. These require a shop to pull the hub, change the backing plate and press the hub back on. This is considerably more labor than option 4 above. However, you now have one inch larger, vented rotors to match the STI front calipers or Stoptech front brakes. This 330mm front rotors kits with the large 2-piston kit is the best brake setup for a road/track use WRX

6. We have limited sets of the gold STI/Brembo brake kits. Due to the huge size of the calipers and 32mm rotor width, these require special wheels. email for details.
